Novi Road, 8 Mile Road to 9 Mile Road
PUBLIC MEETING:
The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with the cities of Novi and Northville, held a public information meeting on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, about the planned construction on Novi Road, from 8 Mile Road to 9 Mile Road. The meeting was held from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Hillside Middle School, 775 N. Center Street, in Northville. The meeting was an open-house format -- with no formal presentations. RCOC staff was present to answer questions throughout the meeting.

2025-2026 PROJECT:
Most of the project will be done in 2026.
The estimated $ 6.8 million project includes:
- Milling (grinding) off existing pavement and repaving with two layers of asphalt.
- Adding a continuous center left-turn lane throughout this entire section of Novi Road.
- Bridge maintenance.
- Adding two northbound lanes and one southbound lane from Rouge River/Allen Road to 9 Mile Road.
- Reconstructing the curve between 8 Mile Road and Allen Road/Rouge River (COMPLETED).
- Utility relocation with intermittent lane closures (COMPLETED).
- Placing curb and gutter where appropriate on the project.
- Installing storm sewer to improve drainage.
- Reconstructing side-street and driveway approaches throughout the project.
- Improving pedestrian crosswalks to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Upgrading traffic signals and pavement markings within the project.
- Installation of a High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK)pedestrian crosswalk beacons just north of Galway Street.

2026 PHASE 2 START DATE: March 30
PHASE 2 EXPECTED COMPLETION: Late summer
Phase 2 traffic impacts: Starting approximately April 1, northbound Novi Road, 8 Mile Road to 9 Mile Road, will be closed to traffic. Southbound Novi Road will remain open.
- Northbound Novi Road traffic detour: 8 Mile Road to Beck Road to 10 Mile Road to Novi Road. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained.
The Wayne County Department of Public Services has closed the 8 Mile Road/Base Line Road bridge over the CSX/Lake State Rail Railway tracks located between Novi Road and Griswold Street in Northville for bridge rehabilitation work until late summer. 2025 PHASE I START DATE: September 15, 2025
2025 PHASE I END DATE: November 17, 2025
2025 PHASE I ROAD CLOSURE: Novi Road will close to reconstruct the curve between 8 Mile Road and Allen Drive. Residential and business access will be maintained. Novi Road will fully close just south of the Tree Top apartments to 8 Mile Road. Residents and businesses will need to use 9 Mile Road to Novi Road for access.
2025 PHASE I DETOUR: 8 Mile Road to Meadowbrook Road to 9 Mile Road, back to Novi Road and vice versa.
