Walnut Lake Road Culvert Replacement and Resurfacing (Orchard Lake Road and Middlebelt Road)

The 61-year-old Walnut Lake Road culvert that carries the Rouge River tributary, located just east of Springwater Lane in West Bloomfield Township, will be removed and replaced. Additionally, Walnut Lake Road, from Orchard Lake Road to Middlebelt Road will be resurfaced.  

PROJECT INFORMATION:

The approximate $1.85 million dollar project includes:

  • Removal of a 72-inch by 44-inch corrugated metal pipe (CMP) arch structure under the road.
  • Replacing the CMP with a precast 13-foot span by 7-foot box culvert with precast wingwalls.
  • Asphalt paving the 1-mile section of road and including road shoulder widening.
  • Guardrail installation in the vicinity of the culvert.
  • New signage and pavement markings.

Timeline/contractor/road closure:

START DATE: To be announced (TBA) -Culvert work will not start until after July 1 due to state restrictions regarding work over waterways

ROAD CLOSURE: Yes. The road will close just over the culvert, located just east of Springwater Lane. Residential and business access maintained east and west of the culvert. 

DETOUR: Walnut Lake Road to Middlebelt Road to Maple Road to Orchard Lake Road, back to Walnut Lake Road and vice versa.
