Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) Managing Director Dennis Kolar has announced that most RCOC road construction projects will be suspended at 3 p.m. Friday, May 24, for the Memorial Day weekend.
Work will resume after 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28.
“The Road Commission wants to ensure that its roads are as free of obstructions as possible during this period because of the increased traffic we typically see on a holiday,” Kolar stated. “That should help to ensure safe and convenient holiday travel for motorists in Oakland County.”
Kolar also prohibited the hauling of most heavy earth-moving equipment and other large contractor equipment on county roads (vehicles that require a permit to travel on county roads) during the holiday. Some lane closures will be eliminated for the holiday.
The following roads will remain closed or partially closed to through traffic throughout the holiday weekend:
- Davisburg Road/Broadway Street, east of Andersonville Road in Springfield Township, is closed until June 17 for road resurfacing work being done under a permit issued by RCOC.
- Dequindre Road, Hamlin Road to Avon Road on the Rochester Hills/Shelby Township border, is closed until late November for Great Lakes Water Authority infrastructure work.
- Elizabeth Lake Road, Highland Road (M-59) to Teggerdine Road in White Lake Township, will close on May 22 through early October for reconstruction work being done by the township under a permit issued by the RCOC.
- Indianwood Road, Lapeer Road (M-24) to Joslyn Road in Orion Township, is closed until early October for culvert replacement work.
- Napier Road at Grand River Avenue on the Wixom/Lyon Township border is closed until late May for intersection improvements.
- Pontiac Lake Road, Airport Road to Crescent Lake Road in Waterford Township, is closed over the Clinton River until approximately October 18 for bridge replacement work.
- Southfield Road, 11 Mile Road to 12 Mile Road in Lathrup Village: The westbound I-696 exit ramp to Southfield Road and the east side of the 11 Mile Road/Southfield Road intersection are closed until approximately June 10. The project is expected to be completed in early July.
- Waldon Road, Baldwin Road to Clintonville Road in Orion and Independence townships, is closed until mid-October for gravel road paving.
