The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) will close 12 Mile Road at Southfield Road in Lathrup Village from 7 p.m. Friday, June 14, through the evening of Sunday, June 16, for construction.
The closure is necessary to pave the 12 Mile/Southfield intersection as part of the ongoing resurfacing project on Southfield Road from 11 Mile Road to 12 Mile Road.
The planned weekend paving work is weather-dependent, and the schedule could change.
Northbound and southbound Southfield Road traffic will be maintained through the 12 Mile intersection during the work; however, during the weekend work, Southfield Road traffic will be unable to turn onto 12 Mile Road.
Access to businesses on both 12 Mile and Southfield roads will be maintained during the weekend closures of the 12 Mile Road approaches to Southfield Road.
The weekend traffic detour routes are:
- 12 Mile Road traffic: Evergreen Road to 13 Mile Road to Greenfield Road, back to 12 Mile Road, and vice versa.
- Southfield Road traffic wishing to travel east on 12 Mile Road: Southfield Road to 13 Mile Road to Greenfield Road to 12 Mile Road.
- Southfield Road traffic wishing to travel west on 12 Mile Road: Southfield Road to 13 Mile Road to Evergreen Road to 12 Mile Road.
12 Mile Road at Southfield Road carries approximately 19,000 vehicles daily. The work is being done during the weekends to minimize traffic impacts.
The Southfield Road project is expected to be completed in early July, with pedestrian crosswalk work continuing into early 2025.
