As part of the ongoing Southfield Road resurfacing project, 11 Mile Road to 12 Mile Road in Lathrup Village, the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) today, May 20, reopened the eastbound I-696 exit ramp to Southfield Road and the west side of the 11 Mile Road/Southfield Road intersection. At the same time, the east side of the 11 Mile Road/Southfield Road intersection was closed. Additionally, the westbound I-696 exit ramp to Southfield Road will remain closed.
The traffic detours starting today for the east side of 11 Mile Road/Southfield Road and the westbound I-696 exit ramp to Southfield Road are:
- The detour route for 11 Mile Road traffic while the east half of the 11 Mile Road/Southfield Road intersection is closed is Greenfield Road to 12 Mile Road to Evergreen Road, back to 11 Mile Road and vice versa. 11 Mile traffic approaching Southfield from the west will be able to turn right or left at Southfield Road.
- The detour route for Southfield traffic wishing to travel east on 11 Mile Road is Southfield Road to either 10 Mile Road or 12 Mile Road to Greenfield Road and back to 11 Mile Road.
- The detour route for westbound I-696 traffic wishing to go to Southfield Road is I-696 to Greenfield Road to Nine Mile Road to Southfield Road.
The closures are expected to last approximately three weeks.
Southfield Road will remain open to two-way traffic during construction with lane closures. Additionally, access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout the project.
The project is expected to be completed in early July, with pedestrian crosswalk work continuing into early 2025.
