The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with White Lake Township, will host a public information meeting on Thursday, Feb. 12, about the planned 2026-2027 gravel-road paving project on Pontiac Lake Road, from Margie Drive to Arlington Street (between M-59/Highland Road and Teggerdine Road) in the township.
The meeting will be run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the White Lake Township Hall Annex, 7527 Highland Road, White Lake Township (the old library building behind the township offices). It will be an open-house format — there will not be a formal presentation, but anyone interested can stop in at any time during the meeting to review plans or discuss the project with RCOC staff.
The approximately $5.8 million project will be paid for with federal funds and contributions from RCOC, White Lake Township and Oakland County general government (through the Tri-Party Program).
Utility-relocation work is expected to start in the late summer and fall of 2026. Tree-removal work is expected to start after Oct. 1 and be completed by winter. Earthwork will start in late 2026 and stop for the winter, with construction taking place in 2027.
2027 construction includes:
- Paving the gravel section of Pontiac Lake Road between Margie Drive and Arlington Street.
- Installation of curb and gutter where appropriate.
- Construction of a roundabout at the Pontiac Lake Road/Fisk Road intersection (once completed, it will be the 46th roundabout on RCOC roads).
- Improvements to shoulders and drainage.
- Adjustments to the roadway alignment and profile to improve safety.
- Improvements to the stability of the soil under the road.
Pontiac Lake Road will be closed to traffic between M-59/Highland Road and Teggerdine Road during construction. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout construction from either end of the project; however, traffic will not be able travel completely through the construction area.
The planned detour route is Teggerdine Road to M-59/Highland Road, back to Pontiac Lake Road and vice versa.
This section of Pontiac Lake Road carries approximately 2,400 vehicles daily.
Anyone wishing to attend the meeting who requires special accommodations in accordance with the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or Title VI, including those requiring language assistance, should call RCOC at 248-645-2000 and ask to be directed to the RCOC Engineering Department to submit your request. The Road Commission will provide such services free of charge, provided reasonable advance notice is given.
