The Oakland County Federal Aid Committee, which selects projects to receive federal road funding in the county, will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 10:30 a.m. at the Southfield Municipal Campus, Parks and Recreation Building, 26000 Evergreen Road, Southfield.
At the meeting, the committee will discuss the status of projects planned for 2026. The Oakland County Federal Aid Committee is made up of representatives from the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), all communities in the county, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and SMART (the suburban bus system).
Projects receiving federal road funds are typically selected at least three or four years before construction to allow time for the Road Commission or the local communities to secure the required matching funds, to allow time for the projects to be designed and to comply with the complex federal funding process. Projects are selected based on an objective point system. All submitted projects are rated and ranked according to a point system that takes into account safety considerations, traffic volumes, traffic operations, cost and other factors.
Anyone wishing to attend the meeting who requires special accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or Title VI, including language assistance, should call RCOC at 248-645-2000 and ask to be directed to the Planning and Environmental Concerns Department to submit your request. The Road Commission will provide such services free of charge, with reasonable advanced notice.
