The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) has closed Pontiac Trail, just west of Old Wixom Road in Wixom, until early October for a culvert replacement project over Norton Creek.
A work zone camera that provides a real-time view of the ongoing culvert-replacement project has been installed for public viewing. The camera takes a photo every 15 minutes from approximately 7 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.
Contractor crews are expected to work on the project most days, excluding during inclement weather and Sundays.
Viewers can follow the construction progress on the RCOC website (www.rcocweb.org). Click on the “Road Projects” icon on the website homepage and scroll down to Road Construction Cameras (direct link to the camera: https://tinyurl.com/5e37ptju ). Site visitors can view project photos or a time-lapse series that combines all images taken in succession.
RCOC will produce a compilation of all photos after the project is completed.
The project includes:
- Removing the existing corrugated metal culvert under Pontiac Trail that carries Norton Creek.
- Placing a pre-cast concrete box culvert with head and wing walls.
- Replacing the pedestrian bridge on the south side of the road with a new sidewalk on the new culvert.
- Paving with asphalt in the vicinity of the culvert.
- Placing new guardrail.
During the closure, the detour is Pontiac Trail to Wixom Road to Grand River Avenue to Milford Road, back to Pontiac Trail and vice versa.
Dan's Excavating is the contractor for this project, which is expected to be completed in early October.
