The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) expects to begin resurfacing work on Greenfield Road, 12 Mile Road to 13 Mile Road, in the communities of Berkley, Royal Oak and Southfield, starting Monday, June 2.
During the work, this section of Greenfield Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Business access will be maintained along Greenfield.
The approximately $2.8 million project is mainly funded with federal dollars, with contributions from RCOC, Southfield, Berkley, Royal Oak and Oakland County general government (through the Tri-Party Program).
The project includes:
- Milling (grinding off existing pavement) and paving with asphalt.
- Repairing curbs and gutters.
- Reconstructing select side street and driveway approaches to Greenfield Road.
- Constructing Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant crosswalks.
- Implementing minor drainage improvements.
- Upgrading the traffic signals at the Greenfield Road/Webster Road intersection.
- Placing new traffic signs and pavement markings.
The contractor for the project is Cipparrone Contracting Inc. of Southfield.
The project is expected to be completed by mid-September. Traffic-signal work at the Greenfield Road/Webster Road intersection will continue until late January 2026.
This section of Greenfield Road carries approximately 22,800 vehicles daily.
