The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) expects to close the north half of the 12 Mile Road/Inkster Road intersection on the Farmington Hills/Southfield border from May 5 until approximately mid-July as part of the ongoing 12 Mile Road resurfacing project, from Inkster Road to Autumn Ridge.
The closure is necessary for the contractor to reconstruct the north half of the intersection. Once the north half opens, the contractor will close the south half.
Eastbound 12 Mile Road remains closed to traffic from Middlebelt Road to Inkster Road as part of the ongoing project.
During the closure of the north half of the 12 Mile/ Inkster intersection, the detour for southbound Inkster Road traffic will be westbound 13 Mile Road to Middlebelt Road to 11 Mile Road, back to Inkster Road.
The detour for northbound Inkster Road traffic will be Inkster Road to 12 Mile Road to Middlebelt Road to 13 Mile Road, back to Inkster Road.
Westbound 12 Mile Road from Inkster Road to Middlebelt Road will remain open to traffic; however, westbound traffic coming from east of Inkster Road will be unable to turn right (north) onto Inkster Road during the closure. Additionally, Inkster Road traffic, north of the intersection, will be unable to access 12 Mile Road.
Northbound Inkster Road traffic will be able to turn onto eastbound or westbound 12 Mile Road during the work.
The 12 Mile Road/Inkster Road intersection carries approximately 26,000 vehicles daily.
The entire project is expected to be completed in early October. The contractor for this project is M.L. Chartier of Fair Haven.
