The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with Oakland Township, will temporarily close sections of Clarkston and Stoney Creek roads, east and west of Lake George Road, starting at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, to facilitate the relocation of the historic Garling Barn.
The move is weather-dependent, and the date could change. It is expected to be completed by 1 p.m. the same day; however, unexpected issues could extend the timeframe.
The barn, which is approximately 32 feet by 70 feet, will be moved from its current location just west of Clarkston Road to its new site on Stoney Creek Road, just east of Lake George Road.
Spectators are asked not to park on the shoulders of Clarkston Road and Stoney Creek Road during the move.
Due to the barn’s size, the temporary closures will include Clarkston Road, the Lake George Road intersection and Stoney Creek Road while the move is underway.
Daily traffic counts on each road:
- Clarkston Road: 4,500 vehicles.
- Stoney Creek Road: 5,030 vehicles.
- Lake George Road: 2,040 vehicles.
