Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) Managing Director Dennis Kolar has announced that most RCOC road construction projects will be suspended at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, for the Labor Day holiday weekend.
Work will resume after 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept.3.
“We recognize that Labor Day weekend is one of the busiest travel times of the year,” Kolar stated. “By halting our road construction, we aim to reduce congestion and make travel easier and safer for motorists throughout Oakland County.”
Kolar also prohibited the hauling of most heavy earth-moving equipment and other large contractor equipment on county roads (vehicles that require a permit to travel on county roads) during the holiday.
The following roads, which are under construction, will remain closed for the holiday:
- County Center Drive, Telegraph Road to Hospital Drive in Pontiac, remains closed for reconstruction until mid-September.
- Dequindre Road, Hamlin Road to Avon Road on the Rochester Hills/Shelby Township border, is closed until late November for Great Lakes Water Authority infrastructure work.
- 11 Mile Road, from Milford Road to South Hill Road in Lyon Township, will remain closed until late October for culvert replacement work.
- Eastways Road, just north of Long Lake Road on the border of Bloomfield Hills and Bloomfield Township, remains closed for culvert replacement work until approximately Sept. 7.
- Elizabeth Lake Road, Highland Road (M-59) to Teggerdine Road in White Lake Township, will remain closed until early October for reconstruction work being done by the township under an RCOC permit.
- Edgeorge Street over the Clinton River, north of Pontiac Lake Road in Waterford Township, is closed due to deterioration of the culvert.
- Farr Street, Broadway Street to Elkin Street in Commerce Township, remains closed until Sept. 20 for bridge replacement work.
- Indianwood Road, Lapeer Road (M-24) to Joslyn Road in Orion Township, is closed until early October for culvert replacement work.
- Martindale Road, Grand River Avenue to Pontiac Trail, remains closed until Oct. 12 for paving in conjunction with a private development.
- Martindale Road Bridge over the Novi/Lyon Drain, between 12 Mile Road and Pontiac Trail in Lyon Township, is closed due to deterioration on the bridge. The bridge will be replaced in 2025.
- Pontiac Lake Road, Airport Road to Crescent Lake Road in Waterford Township, is closed over the Clinton River until approximately Oct. 18 for bridge replacement work.
- Shore Hill Drive over the Upper Long Lake Canal, east of Middlebelt Road in West Bloomfield Township, is closed due to culvert deterioration.
- Waldon Road, Baldwin Road to Clintonville Road in Orion and Independence townships, remains closed until early November for construction of a roundabout at the Waldon Road/Clintonville Road intersection.
