[ARCHIVED] EASTWAYS RD., JUST NORTH OF LONG LAKE RD., , TO CLOSE AUG. 19 TO REPLACE A CULVERT UNDER THE ROAD

Eastways Road Culvert

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) expects to close Eastways Road, just north of Long Lake Road in Bloomfield Hills and Bloomfield Township, starting Monday, Aug. 19, to replace a 70-year-old culvert under the road that carries a tributary to the Rouge River.

Access to homes and businesses just north of Long Lake Road will be maintained, but the road will be completely closed at the culvert.

The detour for through traffic will be Long Lake Road to Squirrel Road to East Square Lake Road, back to Eastways Road and vice versa.

The project includes:

  • Replace the existing culvert with a pre-cast concrete culvert.
  • Construct new wing walls.
  • Install new signs and guardrail and place new asphalt paving in the vicinity of the culvert.

The culvert replacement on Long Lake Road, just east of Eastways Road, is expected to be completed on Aug. 14, and the road will reopen to traffic prior to the Woodward Dream Cruise.

DiPonio Contracting Inc. of Shelby Township is the contractor for the Eastways culvert project. The work is expected to be completed on Sept. 7.

The Long Lake Road and Eastways Road culvert projects are both funded by RCOC and cost approximately $903,000 combined. This segment of Eastways Road carries approximately 4,500 vehicles daily.
