The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with Commerce Township, expects to close Farr Street Monday, June 24, between Broadway and Elkin streets to replace the bridge over the Huron River.
Access to homes and businesses within the construction zone will be maintained during the work. The project is expected to conclude and Farr Street re-opened in late August.
The detour route for through traffic is Carroll Lake Road to West Commerce Road to North Commerce Road, back to Farr Street and vice versa.
The nearly $1.7 million project is mainly funded by Michigan Local Bridge program funds, with RCOC providing matching dollars.
The project includes:
- The removal of the existing bridge, which consists of two failing nine-foot-diameter culverts and replacing them with two new culverts.
- The new culverts will be longer, allowing for future sidewalk installation on the north side of the street.
- Asphalt paving on Farr Street between Broadway and Elkin streets.
- Placement of curbs and gutters in the vicinity of the culvert.
- Placement of a new pathway to access Mill Race Park.
The contractor for the project is C.A. Hull Company of Commerce Township.
