The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) announces the Spring Cleanup Event for the Adopt-A-Road program, which will take place from April 13 to April 21. This event marks this season's first round of roadside cleanup efforts aimed at maintaining the beauty and safety of Oakland County roads.

The Adopt-A-Road program, a collaborative effort involving 366 dedicated organizations, is crucial to caring for 583 miles of roads across the county. Through their commitment and hard work, these organizations contribute significantly to keeping our roads clean and litter free.

"We are immensely grateful to the 366 organizations that participate in our Adopt-A-Road program," said RCOC Board Chair, Andrea LaLonde. "Their dedication and efforts not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of our roads but also promote a cleaner and safer environment for everyone."

As the Road Commission embarks on this cleanup initiative, it urges residents and motorists to refrain from littering and to be mindful of volunteers working along the roadsides. The public’s cooperation and respect for their efforts are greatly appreciated.

Adopt-A-Road volunteers are asked to participate in two of the three season clean-up events during the year, which take place in the spring, summer and fall.

To participate in the Adopt-A-Road program, contact the RCOC Permits Division at 248-858-4891 or email adoptaroad@rcoc.org. Participants will receive training, safety vests and garbage bags.

Additionally, RCOC erects signs at both ends of the designated road sections recognizing the volunteer groups responsible for the sections. The RCOC Board of Road Commissioners approves Adopt-A-Road road segments.

The next (summer) round of cleanup is scheduled for July 13-21. For more information, visit the Adopt-A-Road page on the RCOC website, www.rcocweb.org (direct link: https://www.rcocweb.org/218/Adopt-A-Road).
