[ARCHIVED] INDIANWOOD ROAD, JOSLYN ROAD TO LAPEER ROAD (M-24), WILL REMAIN CLOSED UNTIL EARLY OCTOBER

Indianwood Road Culvert prior to construction, located between M-24 and Joslyn Rd, Orion Twp.

Indianwood Road, between Joslyn Road and Lapeer Road (M-24) in Orion Township, will remain closed to traffic due to ongoing utility relocation work and tree removals in anticipation of the replacement of a culvert that carries the road over the Paint Creek

The road was closed in January with the original plan to reopen it on March 12 and close it again in May. Since the road will remain closed, planned watermain and sewer upgrades will also begin on April 1.

The closure is between Fernhurst Drive and Abseguami Trail. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained east and west of the road closure.

The detour route for through traffic is Joslyn Road to Clarkson Road to Lapeer Road (M-24), back to Indianwood Road and vice versa.

Starting approximately July 1, the contractor will remove the failing metal culvert, originally installed in 1959, and replace it with a concrete culvert. This phase of work will also include drainage improvements and asphalt paving over the vicinity of the culvert.

The culvert project will cost $2.4 million and is being paid for by RCOC and Orion Township. This section of Indianwood Road carries approximately 8,200 vehicles daily.

The road is expected to reopen to traffic on October 5.
