The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), along with the City of Rochester Hills and Oakland University (OU), is accepting online input on the proposed refined alternative for the design of the Adams Road corridor from Hamlin Road to Walton Boulevard in the city.

The refined alternative was determined through an ongoing study of the Adams Road corridor. It was presented at a public meeting Wednesday, Oct. 1 and is available for review on the Adams corridor study website, https://mksk.mysocialpinpoint.com/visioningadamsroad. Input will be excepted until Friday, Oct. 10.

The Oct. 1 meeting was the fourth public meeting in the corridor study process. Public input about various road design alternatives was collected during and following previous meetings, leading to the creation of the current proposed refined alternative for the road.

In addition to the refined alternative, other materials available at the website include all the materials presented at the Oct. 1 meeting, including the recorded presentation, design boards and diagrams, a three-dimensional video of a simulated flyover of the reconfigured road and a comment form, where anyone interested can provide comments.

Throughout the study, the public and stakeholders have helped shape the future plans for the corridor, which could include doing nothing to minor improvements to major widening. The study website provides an overview of the process as well as an interactive map and an “ideas wall”.

The study is funded by a $2 million federal Better Utilizing Investment to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant. It includes a Planning and Environmental Linkage (PEL) study and subsequent Environmental Assessment (EA) of the corridor. RCOC and the City of Rochester Hills are splitting the required local match of $500,000 to complete the study.

The grant was awarded in 2020, and the study started in 2022. Previous meetings were held on Sept. 20, 2022; May 9, 2023; and June 17, 2024. The final workshop will be held in early 2027.
