The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with Commerce Township and Milford Township, will host a public information meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 16, about the planned 2026 construction of RCOC’s 45th roundabout at the Wixom Road/Wixom Trail/Sleeth Road/Duck Lake Road intersection on the border of the two communities.
The meeting will be run from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Walled Lake Outdoor Education Center, 3577 Sleeth Ct., Commerce Township. It will be an open-house format — there will not be a formal presentation, but anyone interested can stop in at any time during the meeting to review plans or discuss the project with RCOC staff.
The approximately $2.7 million project will be paid for with federal funds and contributions from RCOC, Commerce Township, Milford Township and Oakland County general government (through the Tri-Party Program).
Utility relocation work is expected to start late in 2025 and conclude in the spring of 2026. The roundabout construction is expected to start in the summer of 2026 and be substantially completed and open to traffic by the end of the summer.
The work includes:
- Conversion of the existing two signalized intersections to a single, modern roundabout.
- Reconstruction of approximately 0.4 miles of road with asphalt paving and new curb and gutter.
- Installation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant pedestrian crosswalk on the east leg of the roundabout.
- Improvements to storm sewers and drainage.
- Installation of intersection lighting.
The intersection will be closed to traffic during construction. The planned detour route is Glengary Road to Benstein Road to Sleeth Road to North Commerce Road to East Commerce Road and vice versa.
This intersection carries approximately 12,000 vehicles daily.
Anyone wishing to attend the meeting who requires special accommodations in accordance with the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or Title VI, including those requiring language assistance, should call RCOC at 248-645-2000 and ask to be directed to the RCOC Engineering Department to submit your request. The Road Commission will provide such services free of charge, provided reasonable advance notice is given.
