[ARCHIVED] CLARKSTON RD., JOSLYN RD. TO PINE TREE RD. IN ORION TWP., EXPECTED TO CLOSE AUG. 11 – AUG. 23 FOR RO

Traffic Alert Sign

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) expects to close a section of Clarkston Road, from Joslyn Road to Pine Tree Road in Orion Township, starting Monday, Aug. 11, through Saturday, Aug. 23. The closure is needed to repair a section of the road from the Camp Agawam Township Park entrance to approximately 200 feet west, and also replace a culvert under this section of road.

Access to homes and businesses within this section of Clarkston Road will be maintained during the closure. The traffic detour route is Clarkston Road to Joslyn Road to Indianwood Road to Lapeer Road/M-24, back to Clarkston Road and vice versa. The closure was scheduled to be completed before school starts.

The $450,000 project is funded by RCOC and includes:

  • Milling (grinding) existing pavement.
  • Excavation of the roadway and underlying materials from the Camp Agawam entrance to 200 feet west to address pavement condition issues.
  • Placement of tire-derived aggregate (TDA), made with recycled tires, as a road base.
  • Placement of geotextile material to stabilize the road bed.
  • Replacement of a 24-inch culvert under the road in this section.
  • Repaving the section with asphalt.
  • Placement of high-friction surface treatment to provide better traction on the road. This will be done at least 30 days after new pavement is placed, and the road will not be closed to apply the high-friction material.
  • Placement of new pavement markings.

The contractor for the project is Superior Contracting LLC of Almont. This section of Clarkston Road carries approximately 8,900 vehicles daily.
