[ARCHIVED] RCOC SETS DETOUR FOR ORION RD CLOSURE AT DUTTON

Flooding of Orion Road at Dutton Road on the Rochester Hills/Oakland Twp. border.

Beverly Hills, Mich. — The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) has established a formal detour route for traffic travelling on Orion Road at Dutton Road on the Rochester Hills/Oakland Township border, which remains closed due to damage caused by Wednesday’s flooding.

The posted detour route is Rochester Road to Tienken Road to Adams Road, back to Orion Road and vice versa.

Orion Road at Dutton road remains closed until further notice as RCOC continues to assess the damage done by the flooding and works to identify the best repair for the road. In the meantime, utility companies have been busy restoring service lines that were damaged when the ground around the road was washed away by the flooding.

“We appreciate the public’s patience as we work to determine the best way to repair this road,” stated RCOC Managing Director Dennis Kolar. “This flood event was unexpected, and we had not previously seen this type of flooding at this location.”

Kolar noted a portion of the road was washed away by the flooding and will require reconstruction. “As soon as we have a better idea of what the solution will be, and how long we expect it to take, we will share that information with the public,” Kolar said.

Kolar warned people to stay away from the washed-out section of road. “This area has become unstable, and is not safe to be around,” he explained.
