The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) has installed a work zone camera that provides a real-time view of the ongoing culvert-replacement project at Wise Road over the Huron River in Commerce Township.
The camera takes a photo every 15 minutes from approximately 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Contractor crews are expected to be working on the project most days, excluding during inclement weather and on Sundays.
Viewers can follow the construction progress on the RCOC website (www.rcocweb.org). Click on the “Road Projects” icon in the middle of the website homepage and scroll down to Road Construction Cameras (direct link to the camera: https://tinyurl.com/4drm3nwe). Site visitors can view project photos or a time-lapse series that combines all images taken in succession.
RCOC will produce a compilation of all photos after the project is completed.
The project includes:
- Removal of the 81-year-old culvert under the road (work started July 7 due to state waterway restrictions).
- Placing a pre-cast concrete box culvert with an expected life span of at least 75 years.
- Paving with asphalt over the vicinity of the culvert.
- Placement of new guardrails.
- Construction of an eight-foot-wide sidewalk on the north side of the culvert to connect to a pathway in the future.
The contractor for this project is Z Contractors, and it is expected to be completed in early October.
