The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) announces the summer cleanup event for its Adopt-A-Road program will take place from July 12 to July 20. The event is the season’s second round of roadside cleanup efforts aimed at maintaining the beauty and safety of Oakland County roads.
The Adopt-A-Road program, a collaborative effort involving 378 dedicated organizations, is crucial to caring for approximately 595 miles of roads across the country. Through their commitment and hard work, these organizations help to keeping RCOC roads clean and litter-free.
“We are incredibly grateful to the dedicated volunteers who give their time during summer months to help keep our roadsides clean,” said RCOC Managing Director Dennis Kolar. “Their efforts not only enhance the beauty of our communities but also help protect the environment. We remind all drivers to watch for the volunteers during the cleanup and to slow down, stay alert and give volunteers plenty of space to work safely along the roadside.”
As the Road Commission embarks on this cleanup initiative, it urges residents, pedestrians and motorists to refrain from littering. Adopt-A-Road volunteers are asked to participate in two of the three clean-up events, which take place in the spring, summer and fall.
To participate in the Adopt-A-Road program, contact RCOC’s Permits Division at 248-858-4891 or email adpotaroad@rcoc.org. Participants will receive training, safety vests and garbage bags.
Additionally, RCOC erects signs at both ends of the designated road sections recognizing the volunteer groups responsible for the sections. The RCOC Board of Road Commissioners approves Adopt-A-Road segments.
The last cleanup for 2025 is scheduled for September 20-28. For more information, visit the Adopt-A-Road page on the RCOC website, www.rcocweb.org (direct link: https://www.rcocweb.org/218/Adopt-A-Road).
