[ARCHIVED] RCOC ROAD CONSTRUCTION TO STOP FOR JULY 4 HOLIDAY

Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) Managing Director Dennis Kolar has announced that RCOC road construction projects will be suspended at 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, for the Independence Day weekend.

Work will resume after 6 a.m. on Monday, July 7.

We understand the July 4 holiday weekend is one of the busiest travel times of the year,” Kolar said. “By suspending road work and limiting equipment hauling, we are working to ensure that motorists can enjoy safer, less congested travel throughout Oakland County.”

In addition to the construction pause, Kolar has ordered a temporary halt on hauling heavy earth-moving and large contractor equipment — vehicles that typically require special permits — on RCOC roads during the holiday period.

Where possible, lane closures will also be removed to improve traffic flow for motorists further.

The following roads and bridges will remain closed or partially closed to traffic throughout the holiday weekend:

  • Dequindre Road, 23 Mile Road to 24 Mile Road/Parkdale Road on the Rochester, Rochester Hills and Shelby Township border, remains closed until sometime in July for Great Lakes Water Authority infrastructure work.
  • Kent Lake Road/Silver Lake Road intersection is closed until early September for safety enhancements that include adding turn lanes and installing a traffic signal at the intersection. A private developer is doing the work under a permit issued by RCOC.
  • Martindale Road bridge over the Novi-Lyon Drain between Pontiac Trail and 12 Mile Road in Lyon Township is closed for bridge replacement work until mid-November.
  • Spaulding Road bridge over the Novi-Lyon Drain, just north of 11 Mile Road in Lyon Township, is closed for bridge replacement work until early September.
  • 12 Mile Road, Inkster Road to Autumn Ridge Road (just east of Middlebelt Road) in Farmington Hills border, remains closed to eastbound traffic for safety enhancements and resurfacing work until early October. This section of 12 Mile Road remains open to westbound traffic. Additionally, the north half of the 12 Mile Road/Inkster Road intersection, on the Farmington Hills/Southfield border, remains closed for reconstruction until mid-July.
