Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) Managing Director Dennis Kolar has announced that RCOC road-construction projects will be suspended at 3 p.m. Friday, May 23, for the Memorial Day weekend.
Work will resume after 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27.
“We know holiday weekends bring increased traffic volumes, and we want to do our part to keep roads clear and safe for all travelers,” Kolar said. “Suspending work zones helps make holiday travel smoother and more convenient across Oakland County.”
In addition to the construction pause, Kolar has ordered a temporary halt on hauling heavy earth-moving and large contractor equipment — vehicles that typically require special permits — on RCOC roads during the holiday period.
Where possible, lane closures will also be removed to further improve traffic flow for motorists.
However, the following roads and bridges will remain closed or partially closed to traffic throughout the holiday weekend:
- Dequindre Road, 23 Mile Road to 24 Mile Road/Parkdale Road on the Rochester, Rochester Hills and Shelby Township border, remains closed until November for Great Lakes Water Authority infrastructure work.
- Martindale Road bridge over the Novi-Lyon Drain between Pontiac Trail and 12 Mile Road in Lyon Township remains closed for pending bridge replacement work until mid-November.
- Spaulding Road bridge over the Novi-Lyon Drain just north of 11 Mile Road in Lyon Township remains closed for pending bridge replacement work through late September.
- 12 Mile Road, Inkster Road to Autumn Ridge Road (just east of Middlebelt Road) on the Southfield/Farmington Hills border, remains closed to eastbound traffic for safety enhancements and resurfacing work until early October. This section of 12 Mile Road remains open to westbound traffic. Additionally, the north half of the 12 Mile Road/Inkster Road intersection is closed for reconstruction until mid-July.
