The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) wants to know what road safety measures you would like to see more of in the county.
It is seeking public input as part of its Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Safety Action Plan process. SS4A is a US Department of Transportation (US DOT) program promoting the goal of zero roadway deaths in the nation. RCOC received a $470,000 SS4A US DOT grant in 2023 to establish a comprehensive safety action plan to help move Oakland County closer to the goal of zero roadway deaths.
RCOC has established a website where the work on the SS4A grant is posted. Posted on the site is information RCOC has collected from the public about locations that individuals feel have safety concerns as well as countywide crash analysis and the locations selected for further study as part of the SS4A study.
The site includes a virtual meeting with a survey that asks anyone interested to select the type of crash countermeasures they would like to see more of and what criteria RCOC should use to prioritize safety projects on its road network. The survey is available on the website through May 30.

Ultimately the safety action plan is intended to promote safety for everyone who uses the roads: motorists, bicyclists, transit users, pedestrians and others.
