The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) has issued a permit to DTE to close 12 Mile Road, just west of Telegraph Road in Southfield, for underground electrical work starting Saturday, Oct. 19. The road is expected to reopen on Monday, Oct. 21.
Closing 12 Mile Road (between Lockdale and Duffy streets) is necessary so DTE cab repair an underground electrical conduit that caught fire earlier this year. Access to homes and businesses along this section of 12 Mile Road will be maintained east and west of the closure.
The detour for through traffic is Telegraph Road/US 24 to 13 Mile Road to Inkster Road, back to 12 Mile Road and vice versa.
Once the road is reopened to traffic on Oct. 21, lane closures will remain in place until December for continued work on rebuilding the electrical conduit.
This section of 12 Mile Road carries approximately 23,500 vehicles daily.
Questions regarding the work should be directed to DTE at 800-477-4747.
