The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) will close two subdivision streets Monday, Aug. 26, due to deteriorated culverts under the roads – one in Waterford Twp. and one in West Bloomfield Twp.
RCOC will close Edgeorge Street at the 68-year-old culvert that carries the street over the Clinton River in Waterford Twp. The street is located between Pontiac Lake Road to the south and M-59/Highland Road to the north and between Crescent Lake Road to the east and Airport Road to the west.
The Road Commission will also close Shore Hill Drive at the 66-year-old culvert that carries the street over the Upper Long Lake Canal in West Bloomfield Twp. This street is located east of Middlebelt Road, north of West Long Lake Road and south of West Square Lake Road.
RCOC has been monitoring both culverts for years due to their ongoing deterioration. However, the deterioration has advanced more rapidly in recent months, necessitating the emergency closures. RCOC has targeted the Edgeorge culvert for repair in 2025 and is seeking funding to repair the Shore Hill culvert in 2026.
Motorists will be able to access homes on both streets from either side of the culverts. Because both streets are within subdivisions, with alternative routes available, no detour routes are provided.
