The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with Oakland County general government and the city of Pontiac, will close County Center Drive from Telegraph Road to just east of Hospital Drive on the Oakland County general government campus on July 8 to reconstruct the road.
Access to all offices and facilities on the County campus will be maintained during construction. Hospital Drive, Connector Drive, County Center Drive West, Court Tower Blvd South and Pontiac Lake Road will remain open. Both the loop ramps from Telegraph Road to County Center Drive East and County Center Drive west at the north end of the project will also be closed.
The detours for traffic are the following:
- Traffic on northbound Telegraph wishing to access the County campus from the south should use northbound County Center Drive East to Court Tower Blvd.
- Traffic on southbound Telegraph (coming from north of the County campus): Southbound Telegraph to County Center Drive West to Pontiac Lake Road to County Center Drive East.
The approximately $1.9 million reconstruction project is being paid for by Oakland County general government.
The half-mile project includes:
- Removal of the current road.
- Placement of new road base.
- Paving with asphalt.
- Replacement of the loop ramp from northbound Telegraph Road to southbound County Center Drive west at the north end of the project
- Closure of the southbound loop ramp from Telegraph Road to northbound County Center Drive East.
- Placement of new curbs and gutters.
- Improvements to storm sewers and drainage.
- Installation of new signs and pavement markings.
The contractor, Cadillac Asphalt, of Farmington Hills, expects to re-open the road in mid-September.
