The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with the City of Southfield, will begin the 10 Mile Road concrete-replacement project between Evergreen Road and Greenfield Road on July 8 and conclude in the fall of 2024.
The 1.9-mile, approximately $5.2 million project is paid for mainly through federal road funding. The remainder will be covered by RCOC. The contractor for the project is DiLisio Contracting Inc. of Clinton Twp.
The project will include:
- Replacing the concrete roadway and curbs/gutters in the westbound and center left-turn lanes of 10 Mile between Evergreen Road and Southfield Road, and the eastbound lanes between Southfield Road and Greenfield Road.
- Upgrading pedestrian crosswalks to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Upgrading traffic signals at the Santa Barbara and Pierce intersections.
- Making minor drainage improvements.
The work completed as part of this project will complement work completed in the 2019 project on this section of 10 Mile Road, which replaced the concrete not included in this project. This section of 10 Mile Road, between Evergreen Road and Greenfield Road, carries between approximately 12,000 (Evergreen to Southfield) and 16,000 (Southfield to Greenfield) vehicles daily.
Two-way traffic will be maintained on this section of 10 Mile Road throughout the project, with one lane open in each direction.
Access to properties along 10 Mile Road will be maintained at all times during the project, though there will be temporary side-street and driveway closures during pavement placement.
