The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with Waterford Township, will host a public information meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 21, about 2026 plans to replace the 69-year-old Edgeorge Drive and Emburke Boulevard bridges that carry the roads over a tributary of the Clinton River in Waterford Township.

Due to structural deterioration, the Edgeorge Drive bridge has been closed since Aug. 26, 2024. The replacement project will cost approximately $2.7 million and is funded by the State of Michigan and RCOC.

            The project includes:

  • Reconstruction of the Edgeorge roadway approaches to the bridge.
  • Upgrades to guardrail at the bridge.
  • Improvements to drainage.
  • Construction of a six-foot walkway on the north side of the bridge.

The Emburke Boulevard bridge was closed on Nov. 18, 2024, due to deterioration. The existing structure will be removed and replaced with a pedestrian bridge. The project cost is estimated at $950,000 and will be funded by the State of Michigan, Waterford Township and RCOC.

The project includes:

  • Permanent removal of the Emburke twin corrugated metal culverts.
  • Construction of an 8-foot-wide by 61-foot-long steel-truss pedestrian bridge to replace the Emburke culverts.
  • Restoration of the riverbanks where the Emburke culverts had been.
  • Creation of vehicle turnarounds on Emburke on both sides of the Clinton River.
  • Paving with asphalt on Emburke Boulevard from Jeffwood Drive to Farm Road.

Both projects are expected to start in the summer of 2026 and be completed in the fall of the same year.
