DEERHILL DR. BRIDGE, EAST OF DIXIE HWY. IN INDEPENDENCE TWP., TO CLOSE MONDAY, NOV. 18, DUE TO DETERIORATION
The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) will close the Deerhill Drive bridge over Deer Lake Creek, just east of Dixie Hwy. in Independence Twp., this Monday, Nov. 18, due to the deterioration of the structure.
While RCOC has been monitoring the 46-year-old bridge for years due to its ongoing deterioration, the deterioration has advanced more rapidly in recent months, necessitating an emergency closure. Residential access is available east and west of the bridge.
“Public safety is always our top priority,” RCOC Deputy Managing Director and County Highway Engineer Gary Piotrowicz said. “We decided to close the bridge due to significant deterioration discovered during a recent inspection. We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but ensuring the safety of everyone on our roads is essential,” Piotrowicz added.
RCOC is actively seeking funding to replace the bridge.
