The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) has installed a work zone camera that is now providing a real-time view of the roundabout construction at the Eight Mile Road/Currie Road intersection on the Lyon Twp./Salem Twp. border. The camera takes a photo every 15 minutes between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Viewers can watch the progress of the construction on the RCOC website (rcocweb.org – the link is in the “Helpful Links” section at the bottom of the homepage; direct link: https://share.earthcam.net/Eight_Mile_and_Currie_Road_Roundabout_Construction/eight_mile-currie_road_roundabout_construction/camera/view_1). Site viewers can view photos of the project or a time-lapse series that combines all photos taken in succession. RCOC will produce a compilation of all photos following the completion of this phase of the project.
The contractor, Iafrate Construction, began paving the gravel section of Currie Road between Eight Mile and Nine Mile roads and construction of the roundabout April 15.
The $4.4 million project is mostly funded with federal road dollars. The remaining cost is being split between RCOC and Lyon Twp. with the Washtenaw County Road Commission contributing to the roundabout.
