The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with Waterford Township, will host a public information meeting Wednesday, Jan. 11,  about the planned resurfacing of Walton Blvd. from Clintonville Road to the Pontiac city border.

The meeting is from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Grayson Elementary School, 3800 West Walton Blvd., in Waterford Township (meeting will be in the cafeteria). The meeting will be open-house format -- there will not be a formal presentation. RCOC staff will be present to answer questions throughout the meeting.

A second meeting will be happening simultaneously in the same room for a second RCOC project: the 2023 resurfacing of Dill Drive in Waterford Twp.

The Walton project, expected to cost $4.8 million, will be paid for mostly with federal funds and with matching dollars from RCOC, Waterford Township and Oakland County general government (through the Tri-Party Program).

            The 1.32-mile project includes:

  • Removal of the existing pavement and repaving Walton Blvd. from Clintonville Road to the Pontiac city border with asphalt.
  • Replacement of some curbs and gutters.
  • Replacing the traffic signal at the Walton Blvd./Silver Lake Road intersection. The new signal will include backplates to improve visibility.
  • Upgrading pedestrian crosswalks to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

During the work, one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction. The work is expected to start in the spring and conclude in late summer.

Anyone wishing to attend the meeting who requires special accommodations in accordance with the provisions of the ADA or Title VI, including those requiring language assistance, should call RCOC at 248-645-2000 and ask to be directed to the RCOC Engineering Department to submit your request. The Road Commission will provide such services free of charge with reasonable advanced notice. Reasonable efforts will be made to provide the requested accommodation or an effective alternative, but accommodations may not be guaranteed.
