Baldwin Road/Clarkston Road Roundabout

PUBLIC MEETING:

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with Orion Township, will host a public meeting for the planned construction of a roundabout at the Baldwin Road/Clarkston Road intersection.  There will be no formal presentations, but RCOC staff will be present to answer questions. The meeting will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 7 :00 p.m. at the Orion Township Hall, 2323 Joslyn Road, Orion Township.  The meeting will be held in the Dragon Room.  

Anyone wishing to attend the meeting who requires special accommodations in accordance with the provision of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or Title VI, including those requiring language assistance, should call the RCOC at 248-645-2000 and ask to be directed to the Engineering Department to submit your request. The Road Commission will provide such services free of charge with reasonable advanced notice.

PUBLIC INPUT SOUGHT:

RCOC is requesting public input to recognize and address concerns about the temporary use of Friendship Park during this project, which includes slope grading and alignment of the sidewalks on the northeast corner of the intersection. RCOC is proposing a "temporary non-conforming use" of Friendship Park as regulated under Section (4)f of the United States Department of Transportation Act of 1966. Please submit comments by Friday, October 13, 2023.

PROJECT INFORMATION:

The approximate $3.2 million project will be paid for with federal funds as well as RCOC and Orion Township dollars.

The project includes:

  • Construction of a roundabout at the Baldwin Road/Clarkston Road intersection.
  • Constructing new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)--compliant crosswalks at the roundabout that will connect to the existing pedestrian pathways. 
  • Installing High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) pedestrian crosswalk signals. 
  • Improving the storm sewers and drainage.
  • Placing decorative concrete and curbs.
  • Installing intersection lighting. 
  • Utility relocation (taking place starting the winter of 2023)

CLOSURE: The intersection will close to traffic during construction.  

DETOUR: Indianwood Road to Joslyn Road to Waldon Road to Baldwin Road to Maybee/Clintonville Road to Sashabaw Road and vice versa.
