RCOC Catch Basin Cleaning

CATCH BASINS:

The Road Commission has a catch basin cleaning program throughout its storm sewer network and performs cleaning operations throughout Oakland County. Vactors, or vacuum trucks, remove material that has run off the road into catch basins and disposes of the material at regulated locations.

If this sediment, dirt and road debris were not removed, it would flow into surface waters without being treated. The material collected and disposed of is treated through the sanitary sewer system. Road Commission vactor trucks are not able to collect any hazardous materials in their trucks.

Residents and businesses are reminded to not place grass clippings and leaf debris over catch basins. Catch basins need to be free of debris to help with road drainage.
