Currie Road 2020-2022

Phase I (2020-21):

PHASE I (500 feet north of 9 Mile Road to 10 Mile Road)

Project cost: $2.7 million

Project includes:

  • Asphalt Paving
  • Intersection improvements at Currie and 10 Mile Road; including a new traffic signal
  • Construction of curb and gutters
  • Utility relocation in 2020

PHASE I CONTRACTOR: Iafrate Construction

Road Closure: Yes (access to homes and properties maintained)

Detour: 9 Mile Road to Napier Road to 10 Mile Road, back to Currie Road and vice versa.

Project description: 

This project involves the paving of the currently gravel section of Currie Road from 8 Mile Road to Mile Road in Lyon Township over a several-year period including the construction of roundabouts at Currie/8 Mile and Currie/9 Mile intersections .

Phase II (2021-22): 

PHASE II (500 feet north of 9 Mile Road to 8 Mile Road)

Project funding:  The approximate $4.4 million project is funded by federal dollars, Lyon Township and the R.C.O.C. The project also includes a 5-year Local Agency Program warranty.  

Start:  Tre e removal will take place starting Oct. 1, 2021 until approximately Oct. 22, 2021 (road will be open to traffic during the work).  Construction expected to start in the spring of 2022, date TBA.  

Approximate Completion:  Mid-October 2022

Project includes:

  • Asphalt paving
  • Construction of a compact roundabout at Currie Road and 9 Mile Road
  • Construction of a single lane roundabout at Currie Road and 8 Mile Road
  • Construction of concrete curbs and gutters
  • Drainage 
  • Pavement markings
