Project limits:  Long Lake Road to South Blvd

Project cost:   The approximate $16.2 million project is mostly funded through federal aid with the City of Troy providing the match.

Project information:
  • 2 miles of asphalt reconstruction
  • 3 lanes with continuous center left-turn lane
  • Bridge deck replacement over the Nelson Drain (including guardrail replacement)
  • Curb and gutter installation
  • Improved drainage
  • New water main and fire hydrants
  • Sanitary sewer installation
  • New traffic signals at Square Lake/John R and South Blvd/John R
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant sidewalks (east side) and ramps
  • Asphalt path (west side)
  • New street lighting 
Contractor:  Dan's Excavating 

Start date:   Fall of 2018 (utility relocation behind the curb/road shoulder)  Mid-December for tree removal.   

Project completion:  Late Fall of 2019


  • Spring of 2019:  To Be Announced (TBA) Complete closure of John R between Square Lake Road and South Blvd for excavation of bad soil.   The closure will be for approximately 21 days.  All residential and business access will be maintained.  
  • Spring of 2019:   TBA Southbound John R will close to traffic for duration of the project.  Detour is South Blvd to Rochester Road to Long Lake Road, back to John R.    Northbound John R will remain open to traffic.  
  • Atkins Road at John R will be closed by the City of Troy in the Spring of 2019 (date TBA) for the duration of the project.  Troy Fire Station #5 will have access to Atkins Road and John R during the closure. Residents will use Square Lake Road to access and leave the Emerald Lakes Subdivision.
