Avon/Dequindre Road-Great Lakes Water Authority-COMPLETE 

Starting December 5, 2022, the Great Lakes Water Authority will close East Avon Road from Avon Road to Dequindre Road for water infrastructure improvements. The work is being done under a permit issued by the RCOC.

Baldwin Road/Clarkston Road Roundabout

In 2024, the Road Commission for Oakland County, in partnership with Orion Township, plans to construct a roundabout at the Baldwin Road/Clarkston Road intersection.

Bear Creek Court Culvert Replacement

In 2023, culverts under Bear Creek Court in Oakland Township will be removed and replaced with a concrete box culvert.

Brown, Giddings and Silver Bell roads

In 2024, Brown, Giddings and Silver Bell roads will be reconstructed from Jamm Road to M-24 (Lapeer Road) in Auburn Hills and Orion Township communities. The approximate $18.1 million project is funded with state and federal dollars.

Concrete Repairs

RCOC is planning concrete slab replacement on several roads throughout Oakland County in 2021.

Cooley Lake Road Culvert Replacement

In the summer of 2023, Cooley Lake Road will close just west of Carroll Lake Road for the removal and replacement of two culverts under the road. The approximate $2.4 million project is funded with a combination of federal road funds and RCOC dollars.

Davisburg Road/Broadway Road (Mill Pond/Dam Removal) PERMIT PROJECT

IN 2023, Davisburg Road will close just east of Andersonville Road for the removal of the Mill Pond dam. The project includes culvert installation under the road. The work requires the closure of Davisburg Road in Springfield Township. The work is being done by Oakland Parks under a permit issued by the Road Commission for Oakland County.

Dill Drive-COMPLETE

In 2023, Dill Drive from Walton Blvd. to the Oakland Lake Department of Natural Resources (DNR) public access site in Waterford Township will be resurfaced.

Dutton Road Bridge Replacement over the Paint Creek

In 2023, the Dutton Road bridge will be replaced between the Livernois Road intersections in Oakland Township and Rochester Hills.

Elizabeth Lake Road Roundabouts-White Lake Township-COMPLETE

In 2023, the RCOC, in partnership with White Lake Township, will construct single-lane roundabouts at the intersections of Elizabeth Lake Road and Teggerdine Road and Elizabeth Lake Road and Oxbow Lake Road intersections. Both projects will improve intersection safety.

Farr Street Culvert Replacements

In 2024, Farr Street from between Broadway Street and Elkin Street in Commerce Township will close for the removal replacement of culverts under the road that carry the Huron River. Work includes repaving Farr Street from Broadway to Elkin Street.

Fourteen Mile Road, Barrington to Dequindre Road-COMPLETE

14 Mile Road from Barrington to Dequindre Road is scheduled for rehabilitation and resurfacing work starting late in 2022 with completion in 2023. In addition to resurfacing, the project includes drainage improvements, watermain replacement, traffic signal upgrades, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant ramps and repairs to curbs and gutters

Grand River Avenue Culvert Replacement (over the tributary to Kent Lake) - COMPLETE

In 2023, the Grand River Avenue culvert that carries the Kent Lake tributary will be removed and replaced. The work requires the closure of Grand River Avenue from Kent Lake Road to Martindale Road in Lyon Township.

Grand River Avenue, Napier Road to Wixom Road

In 2023, Grand River Avenue from Napier to Wixom Road construction will start in the fall. The project will resume in the spring of 2024. The project includes resurfacing work, traffic signal modernization, installation of a continuous left-center turn lane between Napier and 12 Mile Road, ADA-compliant crosswalks and improved drainage.

Greenfield/Normandy/ Beverly Roundabout-COMPLETE

In 2023, the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with Royal Oak and Village of Beverly Hills, will construct a "compact" one-lane roundabout at the Greenfield Road/Normandy Road/Beverly Road intersection.

John R Road, 14 Mile Road to Maple Road

In 2023, John R Road from 14 Mile Road to Maple Road in Troy will be resurfaced.

Joint Repair Program-COMPLETE

Road Commission for Oakland County will be repairing joints on several roads throughout Oakland County during 2022. A list of roads scheduled for joint repair is listed on the page.

Live Road-Construction Cameras

The Road Commission for Oakland County has live cameras for public viewing over various road construction projects. The cameras take a photo every 15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Middlebelt Road Culvert Replacement over the Shiawassee Creek (north of Nine Mile Road)

In 2024, a culvert carrying the Shiawassee Creek under Middlebelt Road will be replaced just north of Nine Mile Road in Farmington Hills.

Novi Road (9 Mile to 10 Mile Road)

In 2023, Novi Road, from south of 9 Mile Road to north of 10 Mile Road, will be resurfaced. The project includes the removal and replacement of three culverts under the road. During the culvert work, this section of Novi Road will close to through traffic. Local access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout the project. During the resurfacing phase of the project, Novi Road will remain open to southbound traffic only.

Oakwood/Hadley Road Intersection-COMPLETE

In 2023, the Oakwood Road/Hadley Road intersection in Brandon Township will close for culvert replacement work and safety improvements.

Orchard Lake Road (Commerce to Middlebelt ) 2023

The project is funded for 2023, more information will be available late 2022.

Orion/Stoney Creek/Conklin Roundabout

In 2023, the Road Commission for Oakland County, in partnership with Orion Township, has planned construction for a roundabout at the Orion Road/Stoney Creek Road/Conklin Road intersection. During construction, the intersection will close to through traffic. Local access will be maintained.

Oxbow Lake Road Culvert Replacement over the Huron River (North of Cedar Island Road)

Remove and replace a culvert under Oxbow Lake Road that carries the Huron River in White Lake Township.

Permit Work and Short-Term Road Closures

Occasionally, the RCOC will close a segment of road for weekend heavy maintenance work. Typically, this work involves replacing culverts which is weather-dependent work, so the schedule could change.

Perry Lake Road over the Clinton River Culvert-COMPLETE

In 2023, the Road Commission for Oakland County will install a lining in the culvert that carries the Clinton River just north of Clarkston Road in Independence Township.

Simple Resurfacing (Preservation Overlays)

Preservation overlays are being done on heavier traveled roads throughout Oakland County. Typically involves placing 2 inches - 2.5 inches of new asphalt. Roads selected have to be in moderately good shape for this process to work.

Southfield Road Environmental Assessment

Spot Resurfacing Program

Spot resurfacing is milling (grinding pavement) and paving sections of heavier traveled roads throughout Oakland County. The asphalt paving is weather, equipment and material dependent. This page provides a list of roads that will receive this heavy maintenance technique.

Subdivision Paving (Special Assessment District)

Subdivision road improvements in townships are done through a process called Special Assessment District (SAD). SAD is a designated area where RCOC is requested to levy an assessment in exchange for road rehabilitation services. The law that authorizes road commissions SADs was adopted by the Michigan Legislature in 1931 in the form of Public Act 246.

Ten Mile Road, Meadowbrook Road to Haggerty Road-COMPLETE

In 2022 and 2023, 10 Mile Road, from Haggerty to Meadownbrook Road, will be resurfaced. Project also includes culvert replacements and watermain installations. Numerous safety improvements are part of the project.

Twelve Mile Road Environmental Assessment, Beck to Dixon

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with the cities of Novi and Wixom, conducted an extensive study of the section of 12 Mile Road between Beck Road and Dixon Road to determine if the road should be improved, and if so, what that improvement should entail. The study is known as an environmental assessment and is guided by federal rules and regulations.

Waldon Road, Baldwin to Clintonville Road

Starting late in 2022, utility relocation along Waldon Road from Baldwin to Clintonville Road will start to prepare for a multiyear project. Phase I construction will start in 2023. Phase 2 construction will take place in 2024. Work includes gravel road paving, road realignment, culvert replacements and a roundabout at the Waldon Road/Clintonville Road intersection.

Walton Blvd., Clintonville Road to the Pontiac City Limits

In 2023, Walton Blvd. will be rehabilitated from Clintonville Road to the Pontiac city limits.
