T/A TANDEM AXLE

*Overall gross weight on a group of 2 or more consecutive axles to the nearest 500 pounds, L = distance in feet between the extreme of a group of 2 or more consecutive axles and N = number of axles in the group under consideration; except that 2 consecutive sets of tandem axles may carry a gross load of 34,000 pounds each if the first and last axles of the consecutive sets of tandem axles are not less than 36 feet apart, and the gross vehicle weight does not exceed 80,000 pounds including all enforcement tolerances.

S/A SINGLE AXLE

** On any legal combination of vehicles, only one (1) tandem axle assembly shall be permitted at the gross weight of 12,000 lbs. per axle and no other tandem axle assembly in such combination of vehicles shall exceed a gross weight of 9,750 lbs. per axle. On a five axle tractor semi-trailer combination consisting of a steering axle and two separate two-axle tandem assemblies, two (2) tandem axle assmblies shall be permitted at a gross weight of 12,000 lbs. per axle.

ALLOWABLE TRUCK LOADINGS AND DIMENSIONS
Regulations Pertaining to the Operation of Trucks and Trailers According to Act 300, P.S. 1949, as amended

MAXIMUM LEGAL OVERALL DIMENSIONS WITH OR WITHOUT LOAD

  1. Width
  2. Oakland county roads are designated as roads upon which vehicles of not more than 102" in width, including load, may be operated without a permit for overwidth.

  3. Height
  4. 13 Feet 6 Inches All Routes

  5. Length
  6. A vehicle, except a truck tractor, trailer, or semitrailer, including load, shall not exceed a total length of 40 feet. The total length of 50 feet shall have a wheelbase of 40.5 feet plus or minus 0.5 feet, measured from the kingpin coupling to the center of the rear axles or to the center of the tandem axle assembly if equipped with 2 axles. A combination of truck tractor, semitrailer, and trainer, or truck and semitrailer or trailer, or a combination of truck tractor and 2 semitrailer, including load, shall not exceed a total overall length of 59 feet except as provided for on routes designated and approved by the State Transportation Department and by local authorities with respect to highways under their jurisdiction on which a person may operate a combination of a truck trailer, semitrailer, and trailer or a truck tractor and 2 semitrailers with no limit on the overall combination length, if the length of each semitrailer of trailer including load does not exceed 28-1/2 feet for the overall length of the semitrailer and trainer or 2 semitrailers as measured from the front of the first towed unit to the rear of the second towed unit while the units are coupled together does not exceed an overall length of 58 feet, including load. The State Transportation Department and local authorities with respect to highways under their jurisdiction nay designate highways where the overall length of a truck and trailer or semitrailer shall not exceed 65 feet. A truck tractor and semitrailer combination a with a semitrailer length longer than 50 feet shall not be allowed to operate with more that 2 axles on the semitrailer. All truck tractor and semitrailer combination with a semitrailer length longer than 50 feet shall travel exclusively on highways designated by the appropriate road authority. City, village, or county authorities shall have the option of prohibiting stops within their jurisdictions unless the stop occurs along appropriately designated routes.

  10. Any amount is permissible if the legal overall length is not exceeded. If the overhang is 4 feet or more, there shall be displayed on the extreme rear of such load a 12 inch square redflag in the daytime and a red light at night.

  11. Special Widths
    1. Forest Products and Concrete Pipe -- 108 Inches for Load Only
    2. Busses, Total Outside Width -- 102 Inches
    3. Farm Equipment, if Self Propelled or Towed Along the Highway -- 186 Inches between the hours of sunrise and sundown, and 108 Inches between the hours of sundown and sunrise, provided in either case, it does not extend across the centerline of the highway.
  12. Mobile Homes/Mobile Offices
    1. Body Length (not to include tongue) -- 45 Feet All Routes
    2. Length when in combination with towing unit -- 60 Feet in Overall Length
    3. Height -- 13 Feet 6 Inches
    4. Width -- 8 Feet 6 Inches
