12 Mile Road, Farmington to Orchard Lake Road

Project limits:  Farmington Road to Orchard Lake Road

Community:  Farmington Hills

Funding:  $1.62 million (estimated cost) is eighty percent funded with federal dollars. The remaining share is split between the City of Farmington Hills and the Road Commission for Oakland County.  

Project details:

  • Asphalt resurfacing
  • Concrete repairs on some sections
  • Milling and resurfacing on some side-street approaches to 12 Mile Road
  • Repairs to curbs and gutters
  • Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalk ramp upgrades
  • Pedestrian signal upgrades
  • New signs and pavement markings
  • Traffic signal work (to be concluded in 2022)

Contractor:  Ajax Paving 

Start date:  August 23, 2021

End date: Early November.

Road closure:  No, 12 Mile Road will remain open to traffic with one lane in each direction. Residential and business access maintained during the work.  Some side street approaches will close for reconstruction:

  • Kendallwood Drive and New Market Road will close on the north side of 12 Mile Road starting Monday, August 30 through approximately mid-September for reconstruction. Access will be available off of Farmington Road during the closure.  
  • Traffic shift expected approximately Monday, September 20 (eastbound and westbound traffic will shifted to newly paved lanes while work continues).
